A charter member of the original cast of 60-minutes which he launched with Harry Reasoner on September 24, 1968, Mike Wallace has died at age 93.  Over the years, Mike exposed crime, graft and corruption by confronting the perpetrators like a federal prosecutor.  In his very first interview, he confronted John Wilkes Booth with a telegraph crew and got him to confess that he shot Lincoln.

A federal court judge sentenced convicted international Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout to 25 years for supplying guns, rockets and missiles to countries at war with the United States.  He’s showing no signs of rehabilitation -- within two hours of his arrival at federal prison, he sold his cell mate a 9mm semi-automatic Glock carved out of a bar of soap.

In the all’s well that ends well department that 80-year old woman who was able to land a twin engine Cessna with only one engine after her husband had died at the controls is now co-piloting the New York to Las Vegas run for Jet Blue.

For the first time in the history of the Miss Universe Pageant, Donald Trump, its current owner, will allow a contestant who was born male and underwent sex-change surgery.  In true beauty pageant tradition, the contestant will be introduced as a male and allowed to transform himself into a female during the talent portion of the competition.

Landing one of the most coveted roles in years, Nichole Kidman has been signed to play Princess Grace Kelly in a biopic of the iconic actress to be directed by Olivier Dahan.   Lindsay Lohan will play her daughter Princess Caroline if arrangements can be made with the L.A. Superior Court to allow her to serve her sentences in the Monaco jail while on location there.

WakiLeaks: History Declassified 2000 (Vol. One) is now available on Kindle for $2.99

Compiled from Bob's newsletter "Funnyside Up" published in 2000. This is a yuck and chuckle-filled stroll down memory lane to a time before the Bush administration had inflicted its damage -- a time before the search for WMDs and Osama bin Laden. See what we were laughing at back then, who was in the news and who had yet to enter rehab -- which NFL stars had yet to do time in the Gray Bar Hotel.
