A Delta Airlines flight arriving at the Atlanta Airport landed normally and then inexplicably slid off the end of the runway.  Turns out a flight attendant set the pilot’s “arrival martini” on the cockpit dashboard, the co-pilot accidentally knocked it over, and the vodka proved too much for the brake controls.

Since filming began on the hit HBO mini-series “Luck” in Arcadia, CA, three thoroughbred race horses have been injured and had to be euthanized.  Animal rights groups are calling for an investigation.  Ironic, since producers had feared that it might be Dustin Hoffman they’d have to put down.

Researchers from the University of New South Wales are hinting that the 12,000 to 15,000-year old remains of five individuals they discovered in a Chinese cave may be a separate and distinct species from man.  Formal announcement of the find is being delayed until the specimens can be examined by the world’s leading geneticists, anthropologists and James Cameron.

In order to publicize the debut of their new series “Frozen Planet,” the Discovery Channel flew two Arctic penguins from Atlanta to New York on Delta Airlines.  Which made things very confusing for the flight attendants.  The penguins were seated between two nuns.

During an interview on CBS, Britain’s Prince Harry pointed out how surprised people are when they meet him and realize how remarkably similar he is to other guys his age.  In fact, he claims that, unlike film and rock stars, he’s very approachable and non-royal.  Didn’t say, though, how you’re supposed to get across that moat with the drawbridge up.

Compiled from Bob's newsletter "Funnyside Up" published in 2000. This is a yuck and chuckle-filled stroll down memory lane to a time before the Bush administration had inflicted its damage -- a time before the search for WMDs and Osama bin Laden. See what we were laughing at back then, who was in the news and who had yet to enter rehab -- which NFL stars had yet to do time in the Gray Bar Hotel.
