LANGUAGE OF LOVE -- As Brazil prepares to host the 2014 Olympic Games in Rio, local women of the evening are taking classes in conversational English.  They're learning useful phrases such as "Hi, I'm Bambi and I'm happy to meet you," "Are you enjoying your visit to my country?" and "What's it like working for the Secret Service?"

GEORGIA PEACH -- The San Francisco 49ers will meet the Baltimore Ravens in the Super Bowl after polishing off Atlanta even trailing 17-0 in the biggest comeback in playoff history.  Niner fans credit divine intervention and their phenomenal new QB Colin Kaepernick.   When he's in the huddle, they swear they hear singing from what they call the "Mormon Kaepernick Choir."

COLOR COORDINATED -- Just when you thought the unemployment picture was brightening, a Target store in Albuquerque recently advertised 200 job openings and over five thousand applicants showed up.  Some local jail trustees had an advantage -- dressed in their orange jump suits, they were already in uniform.

CHRISTIAN MINGLE -- Pope Benedict XVI has sent his first tweet in Latin which, according to Vatican linguists adapts well because of its brevity.  The Holy Father even has a personal profile that says he enjoys "dancing to Gregorian chants, vintage altar wine-and-cheese tastings, and long walks on water."

DECEMBER MAY -- Fifty-one year old Adrienne Maloof, a "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" regular, is dating Rod Stewart's 32-year-old son, Sean.  This may mean zilch to you, but Hugh Hefner and his child bride, Crystal, couldn't be more pleased.  Since Ashton and Demi called it quits, they've had no one to double date with.

BOB HOPE'S 1983 U.S. COLLEGE CAMPUS TOUR: Your Alma Mater Here?

"Having spent twenty years writing for the indefatigable Bob Hope, and traveling all over the world, Bob Mills is well qualified to salute the famous corps of gag men who kept the comedian knee-deep in jokes. These first-hand recollections summon up the final phase of Hope’s career—and the end of the trail for an entire brand of show business."

WakiLeaks: History Declassified 2000 (Vol. One) is now available on Kindle for $2.99

Compiled from Bob's newsletter "Funnyside Up" published in 2000. This is a yuck and chuckle-filled stroll down memory lane to a time before the Bush administration had inflicted its damage -- a time before the search for WMDs and Osama bin Laden. See what we were laughing at back then, who was in the news and who had yet to enter rehab -- which NFL stars had yet to do time in the Gray Bar Hotel.
