CLEAR THE RUNWAY -- The eagerly-anticipated Fashion Week is fully underway in New York City with designers and models converging on Manhattan's posh hostelries from all over the world. Responding to criticism from civil rights activists, this is the first year the girls will be required to pass a minimum body mass test -- they must be able to show they can shower without being sucked down the drain.OLE! -- Over howls of protest from animal rights groups, for the first time in over six years, a bullfight in Madrid aired on live TV. Fans of the ancient sport thanked the new Prime Minister, Mariano Rajoy. But one concession was made to the protesters. The scheduled McDonald's-sponsored "Stab Your Own Burger" Night was cancelled.
DUCK SOUP -- In Vladivostok, Russian President Vladamir Putin donned goggles and Snoopy scarf, fired up a powered hang glider and taught a flock of motherless geese how to fly south for the winter. But let's be realistic here, folks. The geese had been trained by the KGB -- and when the KGB says "Fly south for the winter," you fly south for the winter.
I CHALLENGE THEE -- The Learning Channel has debuted TV's first Amish reality show that follows five men and women aged 20 to 32 who journey to New York City to find out if they prefer a contemporary lifestyle (and forfeit their Amish faith) over remaining loyal to 18th century living conditions. Some of the kids are already trying to mix the best of both worlds -- like churning butter in a Cuisinart, weaving Hermes scarves on a loom, and seeing the sites in a battery-powered horse and buggy.
SAY CHEESE -- Researchers at Amherst College studying the life of 19th century poet Emily Dickinson stumbled upon a photograph of the author dated 1859, only the second image of her known to exist. May be some trouble down the road, though. In the picture, she's posing with the cast of "The View."
