A FEW GOOD GALS -- Twenty percent of Marines say they will leave the
Corps if women are allowed on the front lines because they would change
the very nature of warfare. Objections ranged from the embarrassment
of asking a stranger for directions from the window of a tank... to
hitting the beach and having to head for the nearest shoe store.
THICKER THAN GAS -- Makers of the priciest production automobiles in the
world, the Rolls-Royce Motorcar Company reported their highest
new-vehicle sales figures in decades. This despite their paying
absolutely zero attention to mileage or the soaring cost of fuel. No
mystery here. Rollies don't run on gasoline -- they run on blue blood.
PHOTO FINISH -- Researchers from Pennsylvania's Akhmim Mummy Studies
Consortium examined a 4000-year old Egyptian mummy from the Virginia
Museum of Fine Arts with a state-of-the-art CT scanner that renders 3-D
images heretofore unavailable. Expert preservationists who will analyse
the images include archaeologists, radiologists, and Cher.
SHAKE RATTLE ROLL -- French electrical engineer Andre Cassagnes who in
1959 invented the world's most creative kids' art toy Etch-A-Sketch,
died at age 86 at his home near Paris. Well, died is a bit of a
stretch. Actually, his caregiver, failing to awaken him, shook him
gently and he just seemed to disappear.
REINCARNATION -- The TNT Channel has revived the smash 1978-91 nighttime
soaper "Dallas" with Larry Hagman, who died last November, still
playing the role of family patriarch JR. Only in Hollywood. The show
went from "Who Shot JR?" in 1980 to "Who Brought JR Back to Life?" in
2013.
